A metropolis of corporate nesting

Our massive City is divided into 26 Districts, each unique in its technological advancements and culture. No two Districts are alike! For example, in whatever Nest you (our wonderful new manager) may be staying, it might be considered common courtesy to make sure no food is wasted. However, the Nest right next to yours could just so happen to believe that it is a virtuous act to throw leftovers at the poor, as to let the destitute enjoy some sort of feast. When traveling, it's recommended that you read up on the customs and taboos of each Nest before visiting.

도시 내 26개 구역은 둥지라고 불립니다. 그리고 모든 둥지는 날개의 품 안에서 보살핌을 받고 있습니다. 날개란 도시에서 가장 거대한 26개의 기업이죠. 날개 한 개당 한 둥지씩 관할하고 있으며, 둥지의 거주자들은 날개의 품에서 안락하게 지낼 수 있습니다. 하지만 주의하세요. 날개가 꺾이는 순간, 둥지 안에서 관리자님과 수감자들의 안전은 그 누구도 보장하지 못하니까요!

26 Nests under the brooding of 26 megacorporations

Nests are what we call the 26 provinces of the City. And every Nest is cared for in the swaddling of its Wings. The 'Wings' are a collective term we use to refer to the 26 biggest conglomerates in the City. Under the jurisdiction of a Wing, the citizens of each Nest enjoy comfortable and safe lives. But don't let yourself get too comfy! The moment a Wing is snapped or plucked of its feathers, no one can guarantee your safety in its Nest, Executive Manager; the same goes for the sinners working under you.

The Backstreets

날개로부터 내쳐진 도시의 퇴적지

둥지와는 달리 안전을 보장받을 수 없는(그렇다고 둥지가 반드시 안전하다고는 할 수 없지만요) 위험한 지역입니다. 둥지 안까지도 혈관과 같이 도시 곳곳에 촘촘히 퍼져 있지만 경계는 명확히 구분되어 있죠. 무법지대처럼 보일 수도 있지만 뒷골목마다 고유한 금기도 확립되어 있으며 다양한 문화권이 구축된 곳입니다. 도시 사람들끼리 뭉쳐 조직을 구성하기도 하는데 그 수와 규모는 각지각색이라고 합니다.

그리고... 명심해주세요. 관리자님이 긴박하게 요청을 하더라도 뒷골목의 밤(오전 3시 13분부터 오전 4시 34분까지)에는 그 어떠한 지원도 제공할 수 없습니다.

Unlike the Nests, these are dangerous regions where your safety cannot be guaranteed. (Although the Nests also come with their own risks.) The Backstreets are spread in, out, and around the Nests like veins throughout the City, though the boundary between the Nest and the Backstreets is clearly drawn. While these areas may seem like lawless lands at first glance, each district of the Backstreets has its own list of taboos, and you can find a rich and diverse set of cultures. Sometimes, denizens of the City form organizations of varying size and scope, commonly referred to as Syndicates.

Furthermore... please ensure you remember this next part. No assistance can be provided to the Executive Manager between 3:13 AM and 4:34 AM, colloquially known as the 'Night in the Backstreets'. Nothing can be done, even for the most urgent of requests.

Fixers are the all-around handymen of the City, handling their clients' various cases and incidents. Most of the time, in order to contract a Fixer officially, one must rap on the door of an Office authorized by the Associations or visit one of the Associations in person. As a pro tip, if you need someone to handle work that most would consider "unreasonable", make sure to bring loads of cash and go directly to an Association. Most Fixers working at the Associations are obedient little dogs who can't refuse their missions!

An energy company that had contained Abnormalities

Located in Nest L, Lobotomy Corporation was an energy company that produced an ample supply of power through the exploitation of monsters called 'Abnormalities'. Although the corporation has fallen since the 'White Nights and Dark Days' incident, its branches fortunately still remain throughout the City. As the Executive Manager, your mission is to guide your sinners through the branch facilities and salvage valuable goods. Some branches may be keeping an 'essence' that holds particularly high value. Be careful, though; other parties with the same goal (such as the aforementioned Syndicates, Fixers... or even other corporations) could interfere at any moment.

Lobotomy Corporation used to produce energy using creatures they called 'Abnormalities'. After the Wing's unexpected and swift collapse, those poor creatures got trapped in the facilities, alongside the even poorer employees.

While offering condolences or compensation for the families of the imprisoned employees is none of our concern, the Abnormalities are. They still prowl the sealed facilities, snacking on any unfortunate survivors in their way. Don't forget that retrieving Enkephalin is one of your objectives. (It should hardly be a surprise to you by now, but Abnormalities were the source of the famous Enkephalin fuel cells all along!)

[WARNING]: Abnormality codices are not provided by our company. In fact, the staff on-site―meaning you and your employees―are expected to write detailed reports based on their experiences and submit them to us. Please also note that the heinous act of pocketing the Enkephalin for yourself without our permission will be met with severe punishment.

As much as you must tire of being reminded, Abnormalities still stalk the underground facilities of Lobotomy Corporation’s fallen branches. And at the depths of these facilities lie the Golden Boughs, the essence of the corporation’s energy production technology... or what's left of it, anyway. Your objective is to travel about the City on our bus and obtain the Golden Boughs found somewhere in the ruins of Lobotomy Corporation’s branch facilities. Of course, a most kind and hospitable guide carefully selected by our staff will accompany you during the journey.

Useful tools originating from Abnormalities

Lobotomy Corporation also possessed technology allowing them to extract weapons and armor from the Abnormalities. They say that even those with no experience in combat instantly knew how to wield the equipment right when they held it, and that there was profound potential just waiting to be tapped. (Rumor has it that the once-famed Fixer, the [REDACTED], made use of E.G.O, but... it's only an old wives' tale, surely.) Unfortunately, all E.G.O stored in the Lobotomy Corporation headquarters was lost, but it's since been confirmed that there's still E.G.O to be salvaged from the branches. We can't in our good conscience let those weapons of potential mass destruction carelessly collect dust, can we? Of course, our highly trained staff will recover the E.G.O once you locate them.

Have you ever felt that your sinners are underperforming, unreliable, or useless? Maybe even all three? Not sure how you're supposed to proceed with such hopeless combatants? Well, we now have something to proudly present: the technology of borrowing an "identity" from somewhere in the countless alternate realities. (Credit for this tech goes to the self-proclaimed third smartest person in the City.) A puny sinner from our City who can barely stand their ground in battle might be a renowned hero in a City not of our own. You never say never to infinite possibility.

We recommend simply nodding once and getting over it. Even though she has an unparalleled genius, we can't quite figure out how to use this one. Perhaps you could be the one to find out?

Particulars: Over-passionate, [REDACTED], Has Delusions of Grandeur

There is no sinner that can outmatch this one's level of passion. An avid aficionada of all things Fixer, she adorns herself with a variety of Fixer-related merchandise. They won't affect her performance in combat one way or another, so there is no need for you to restrict her from keeping her decorations. She is deeply immersed in the role of a righteous Fixer, hence the exaggerated mannerisms akin to those of an actor. (Has such a thing ever existed, really?) It's advised to play along with her for a smooth mission.

As they say, every person has their own creed—and it’s only right to respect it as the Executive Manager. But with some creeds, you will have difficulty in even simply pretending to sympathize. You will have noticed that the sinner in question is a silent chain-smoker whose eyes shine with a euphoric gleam only during battle. She believes that senselessly destroying the enemy's heads is an uncultured act and a step backward for art. If you are at your wit's end, please press the red button included in your welcome kit.
[CAUTION]: This sinner's background is one that even our company may have trouble handling; it is advised against making her breed personal resentment towards you.

A sinner who had lived an affluent life before becoming our company's asset. As such, he has a certain admiration for a free life; but occasionally, he may make ignorant and unsavory questions in regards to the food cooked by a certain other sinner or other aspects of the low-lives' lowly culture. This can cause much irritation for the other sinners. However, it is important to note that no sarcastic undertones are contained in his curiosity-driven inquiries, so it is ill-advised to let them get physical over it.

Particulars: Anger-management Issues, Ruffian, Inferiority Complex

This sinner prefers to take action rather than wait for logic to dictate his course. His thoughts and feelings are blatantly visible in his demeanor, and he has no intention of hiding them; his brashness may cause headaches (or physical injury leading to a headache) in the process of forming a relationship. Please do note that this is not an indication of serious damage to the sinner's thought process. If his fit of rage persists, please contact the human resources department. Once you realize that he is the type that tends to be simple-minded, you'll have an easier time handling him.

Particulars: Suffers from an obsessive-compulsive neurosis

You may be disheartened by the defective state of many of your sinners, but do not worry; this sinner is one of the few who can carry out most missions without much complaint. She is likely to make reasonable judgements, so it is a good idea to start conversations while looking her way if you're seeking sound advice. However, you mustn't forget: this sinner has survived an absurd voyage in a far and wide body of water. Her patience may run deep, but once you take a wrong turn with her, it will be a difficult task to regain her trust.

The unfortunate traits of being Backstreets-born are apparent in this sinner. She loves money, gambling, and betting—so it is advised to pay close attention to her as the manager. She tends to deflect orders with an unimpressive wink or a silly joke; we recommend taking a stern stance at times to remind her that you are her superior. Her mood may be down at irregular intervals. There is nothing you can do to aid her in that state, so we recommend waiting for it to pass.

As there may be those with violent tendencies among your crew, we recommend taking an approach focused on positive reinforcement with this sinner. He appears to possess a murderous gaze that he himself isn't aware of; this is a hopeful sign that he has the potential to grow into an expert of our company's profession with the right stimuli.

This sinner is relatively easy to handle in terms of personality. However, an upsurge of emotion or a sudden change of environment may cause parts or the whole of his body to transform into insectile (notably akin to a carapace, resembling that of the _________) tissues. If you do not wish to be a rude manager (not that you're obligated to be nice), we recommend keeping your facial expression in check so that your disgust is not visible to him. He sometimes uses cynical language, but he can still be reasoned with, and you can get around him without much difficulty as long as you learn the knack of it.

Its shape depends on the sinner it resonates with, and the deeper into the abyss of the ego you venture, the more warped the space will become. Everything will go back to normal once you find and retrieve the Golden Bough resting somewhere within the space. But until then... well, we can only hope that endlessly roaming about an unending hell is to your liking.
